Ms. Kia Yang

Hello.  I am Kia Yang and I teach grades 6-8 Math.  This is my 20th year teaching at Battle Creek Middle School.  I grew up in Pontiac, Michigan.  I attended Michigan Technological University, with a major in Mathematics and Education.  I moved to Minnesota after getting married.  My husband and I have four beautiful children, two sons and two daughters.  My hobbies include playing with my kids, shopping, watching my daughters dance, and enjoying a good movie with my kids.

Math and Homework:

Student grades are based 80% on assessments  (tests and projects) and 20% on daily work (quizzes, work completed at home and in-class assignments).

We will cover the MN State Standards and use the Holt textbooks for the Algebra course. There will be homework assignments MOST OF THE DAYS of the week. Students are expected to practice on a daily basis the skills taught in class in order to fully grasp the concepts and build on to them.  Most homework assignments will be collected for the homework grade. Whether the assignment is picked up or not, the benefit of doing homework is that timely feedback will be given to the student in order to gauge and extend understanding.

Parents, you can help. I will be expecting all assignments to be done (practiced) by the next school day. The way you can help is to ask your child every school day if schoolwork needs to be done, and if so, make sure your child completes the assignment. You can ask your child to show you what he/she wrote down in the planner for that day so that you also know what’s going on in each of his/her classes.

Emailing me is the best way to contact me. I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Thank you very much,

Ms. Kia Yang
