Hello there! My name is Rebekah Orensten (pronounced Oren-steeen) and I LOVE my job as Library Media Specialist at BCMS! If you have any questions, please stop by the library or email me.
I am looking forward to starting my SEVENTH(!!!) year at The Creek (SY 2022-2023)!
When I'm not at BCMS, I spend time reading and I use the Goodreads app to keep track of how many books I read each year. It's a way for me to take notes on books so I can share with students, as well as challenge myself to read more. I enjoy reading YA novels - A Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds is one of my favorites. Besides reading, I enjoy spending time with family and friends as much as possible. I grew up in a family where we played lots of boardgames and cardgames - my favorites are cribbage, backgammon and Settlers of Catan.
I look forward to meeting your student(s) and helping them find the book that fills their heart in addition to helping them with technology!
Digital Media Explorations
In addition to my role as Library Media Specialist at Battle Creek Middle School I will also be teaching two sections of Digital Media Explorations (DME). In this class we will learn how to code with code.org, learn how to create with digital tools, code with sphero robots and more! All homework assignments will be on Schoology. Students will need FULL access to their iPads and their first assignment is ensuring that their iUpdate is complete.
iPads: Please let me know if your iPad is cracked or having any issues so I can help you immediately to support you for DME as well as your other class.
Things to know: We will be doing lots of project based learning and self paced learning through code.org and will be learning together.

Genius Squad
Genius Squad students will be in the lirbary for 1st, 3rd, and 7th periods. They will work with me to help our school with technology as well as have some independent study options as well. I can't wait to learn from each other!
