Title 1 Compact

The Title I Compact is a list of agreements that we ask parents, students, and teachers to commit to and sign at the beginning of each school year. The purpose of the compact is to provide expectations that will help all of our students be successful in school.

What Is a Family-School Compact?

A Family-School Compact for Achievement is an agreement that parents, students and teachers develop together. It explains how parents and teachers will work together to make sure all students get the individual support they need to reach and exceed grade level standards.

Jointly Developed with Parents

The parents at Battle Creek Middle School helped develop this Compact for Achievement. School-wide meetings are held each year to update the Compact. Parents are welcome to contribute comments at any time. For more information on the BCMS Compact, please contact Parent Liaison, See Vang at (651) 744-7072.

Communicating to parents and guardians about Learning

BCMS is committed to communicating regularly with families about student learning. Some of the ways you can expect us to communicate are:

  • Flyers and handouts send home with students
  • iUpdate and Schoology websites, as well as BCMS social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram and our website.
  • Direct phone calls, voicemails, emails, and texts from school and individual teachers and administrators.

Families can ask for conferences with a teacher at any time. Families can ask for interpreters at any school meeting and for translated materials. Parents may also  request for transportation to attend school meetings.

BCMS Students

BCMS students developed ideas about how all Panthers can succeed in school. Students thought of the following ideas to make connections between learning at home and school.

  • Attend school every day, bring materials, be on time to class, and add positivity to the learning environment.
  • Talk about issues before reacting and ask adults for help when you need it.  They are here to help you.
  • Keep a positive outlook and treat others the way you want to be treated.
  • Participate in extracurriculars, clubs, and Foundations.

In Classrooms

BCMS teachers will work with students and their families to support students’ success in reading and math. Some of our key connections with families will be:

  • Provide parents with accurate information on iUpdate, Parent Portal, and Schoology, and communicate when issues arise.
  • Reply promptly to messages from families.
  • Provide daily math review and independent reading time for all students.
  • Ensure students who need extra help are enrolled in a support class or tutoring program.
  • Make and provide time for teachers to plan collaboratively, assess student work, and call parents and guardians.

At Home

BCMS parents and guardians joined staff to develop ideas about how families can support students’ success in reading and math.  Families may have other ideas to add to this list.

  • Check the Parent Portal and Schoology frequently and follow up concerns by contacting the school or teachers.
  • Attend conferences or schedule at other times.
  • Call or email teachers with questions or concerns.
  • Keep family contact information current by using iUpdate and/or contacting BCMS.
  • Look for our bi-weekly newsletter, the Panther Bulletin from the school. Discuss school life with your student and support students by using the 3 Ps that Panthers strive to achieve, be Punctual, be Prepared, and be Polite.
